La Glacée, Hokkaido

Furano, Hokkaido, Japan··19 October 2024

Some places don’t need a big menu. La Glacée proves that one perfect pastry is enough.

The Setting

Warm wood tables, mustard-gold plates with the shop’s logo dusted in powdered sugar, and the kind of quiet that tells you people come here to eat, not to take photos. Though you will take photos.

The Food

A flaky, golden pastry — crisp on the outside, soft and buttery inside — served with a generous swirl of fresh cream and a scoop of honey-glazed ice cream. The balance between warm pastry and cold cream is exactly right. Nothing fancy, nothing trying too hard. Just good.

Worth It?

Absolutely. Hokkaido is famous for its dairy, and La Glacée puts that reputation on a plate. Half a star off only because the portions leave you wanting a second round — though maybe that’s the point.
