Farm Tomita is famous for its summer lavender, but I visited in autumn — and honestly, I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
The Setting
Late October. The flower fields had shifted from purple to deep reds and fading greens. The trees lining the farm had turned gold and amber, and the Tokachi mountain range sat behind everything under moody autumn clouds. The whole landscape felt like it was settling in for winter, and there was something beautiful about catching it in that in-between moment.
The Autumn Experience
No lavender, no crowds, no rush. The farm is free to enter year-round, and in autumn you get the place almost to yourself. The flower beds still had colour — rows of crimson and russet — and the views across the valley to the mountains were wide open. The air was cold and clean, the kind that makes you breathe deeper without thinking about it.
The Verdict
Half a star off only because the famous lavender fields are a summer thing, so you’re seeing the farm in its quieter season. But the autumn colours, the stillness, and those mountain views made it feel like a completely different destination — and one I’d happily return to.
